When Seventeen
year old Alex dies suddenly and without explanation, her boyfriend Toby is
left bewildered. With the realization that the deadline of death may
happen sooner rather than later, Toby questions the point of life.
Alex's presence lingers to tease him, to taunt him, to help him in the
search for answers. He reasons the point of life is to defy death, to
screw the deadline. The question is how. With physical immortality beyond
possibility, Toby examines the idea of immortality through fame. The
problem is: how can you be famous when you're so average?
As his memory of Alex fades, Toby becomes more and more determined to make
his mark. Hurt and abandoned, to spite Alex, Toby pursues the path of
genetic immortality – quite literally screwing the deadline.
With Toby at an all time low and his desperation at its height, he
contemplates a school shooting. Will he accept his potential mortality? Or
be forever immortalized in newspaper print by sacrificing innocent lives
to gain fame?
