THE 2005 SCREENWRITER'S CHALLENGE
Are you a screenwriter looking for a challenge and exposure? All aspiring—and competitive—screenwriters worldwide are invited to participate in the 2005 Screenwriter’s Challenge. Writers compete to see who can produce the best screenplay on an assigned genre and subject in as little as 24 hours. The winning writers will receive over $7,000 in prizes along with valuable exposure, and of course, bragging rights.
Organized by NYC Midnight Movie Making Madness (NYC MMM) and sponsored by Writers Boot Camp, the 2005 Screenwriter’s Challenge consists of two rounds. In the preliminary round writers have one week, beginning July 22nd, 2005, to produce a screenplay on a given genre—and at this moment, secret—subject. Those who advance to the second round to compete for the top prizes must write an original screenplay in just 24 hours, from midnight to midnight, on September 2nd and 3rd, 2005.
Anyone may compete in the 2005 Screenwriter’s Challenge from anywhere in the world. The entry fee is $35US before July 7th, 2005 and goes up to $45US until the final entry deadline of July 21st, 2005. About the Organizers
NYC MMM is a nonprofit organization dedicated to discovering and rewarding aspiring filmmakers and screenwriters. In addition to the Screenwriter’s Challenge, NYC MMM holds an annual Short Film Competition in October, during which filmmakers write, shoot, and edit movies on an assigned genre and subject in as little as 24 hours. New to the organization this year is the addition of “Midnight Run” competitions that bring the 24-hour filmmaking challenge to cities across the country. Over 50 teams of filmmakers competed in the NYC “Midnight Run” this past May. Keep an eye out for the Chicago “Midnight Run” in August and the Brooklyn “Midnight Run” in late September of 2005.
