Mark begins to work for the Organization which his father and uncle (Sam Pierce) ran together. He begins by taking over a bar that his father used to own. Mark meets and falls in love with Amy Cook who waitresses at the bar. Amy is one of the leaders of a neighborhood vigilante group working against the Organization but Mark has no idea.
Amy is attacked by Jack, an Organization member assigned to find the leaders of the vigilante group, and Mark comes to her rescue. Mark is wounded with a knife but ends up killing Jack in self-defense. Mark learns that Jack was also the boyfriend of Mark's ex-girlfriend Sarah Williams. Sarah happens to be the daughter of Ethan Williams, the second in command of the Organization.
Ethan wants Mark to die for killing an Organization member with such an important assignment, suggesting that Mark might be covering something up. Mark's uncle saves Mark from death by turning over leadership of the Organization to Ethan, but Mark is still exiled. Mark confronts Amy about the reason Jack attacked her. Amy confesses to Mark that she is a member of a vigilante group and Mark is offered a position in the group by it's leader, Robin. Mark accepts the position. Sarah, seeking revenge for Jack's death and jealous of Amy's relationship with Mark, has Mark followed and discovers the location of the vigilante gang.
Ethan decides to have the vigilante group's headquarters attacked. Ethan sends his henchman Kevin Capillano to kill Mark and Amy at Amy's apartment. Mark and Amy learn of the attack from Jason Michaels, Mark's best friend and an Organization member, and Frankie Squire, Amy's brother working in the mob as a spy. The four friends survive an attack in the city streets and rush to warn the vigilantes. When they arrive the vigilante headquarters are under attack by the Organization. The friends help the vigilantes defend themselves but they are outnumbered and not many survive. A small group escapes the headquarters before it explodes. Robin is fatally wounded and leaves Mark in charge of the gang before he dies.
After some hesitation, Mark organizes the surviving vigilantes and becomes their leader. The group performs various vigilante acts (Assaulting a drug dealer, stopping a protection scam, trapping a car theft ring, and stealing gun money from the Organization) infuriating Ethan. Ethan tries to have Mark killed resulting in a shootout in a parking garage that leaves Amy in the hospital.
The vigilante acts become more frequent after the attack on Mark and Ethan decides to call a truce, it is designed to give Mark a false sense of safety. Ethan has Kevin try to kill Jason but Jason's wife and child are killed by mistake. Mark is angered by the act and loses his temper resulting in a tense and near fatal dinner conversation with Ethan and Kevin. Ethan explains that the attempt was a result of Jason betraying the Organization and not because he is a vigilante. Mark decides to honor the truce, for the moment.
Sarah is too angry at Mark to let the truce happen so she and her new boyfriend Kevin decide to kidnap Amy in an attempt to make Mark careless and mad. Sarah also has plans to get rid of her father and wouldn't mind if Mark did her dirty work. To further infuriate Mark she tries to have Mark's Mother and Uncle killed but the attempt is thwarted by Frankie. Mark and Jason decide to attack the Organization headquarters for revenge and to save Amy. They get help from Frankie and several other group members.
The group storms the Organization headquarters. They crash their cars through the front gate while Jason tries to sneak in the back with a large bomb. During a large firefight the group gains access to the headquarters and Mark finds Amy. When the attack starts Sarah confesses to Ethan about kidnapping Amy and together they stop Amy and Mark from leaving the building. Jason attempts to set up a bomb in the building's basement, but is stopped by Kevin. Sarah is killed in a shooting and Amy escapes, leaving Mark and Ethan to face each other. Mark kills Ethan and finds Amy, the couple tries to escape the building. Jason fights with Kevin and gets the upper hand, he sets the bomb off without escaping the blast. Mark and Amy escape in time but Mark is injured from the gunfight with Ethan and dies in Amy's arms. |
