Biography

Allison Bonner Shillingford

Allison Bonner Shillingford is a storyteller who pursues the character-driven story. As a scriptwriter, her main objective is to have the audience understand and become connected to the subject; whether an individual, a family, or a community. Her original sitcom “Mel & Missy” won best teleplay in the 2013 17th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival, presented by BET Networks. Her original sitcom “Everything is High School” was a second-rounder in the 2014 Austin Film Festival. After making it funnier it is now a runner-up in the 2015 Filmmaker Magazine’s 1st TV Script Writing Competition.

As an oral historian/documentarian, Allison weaves the personal accounts of her interviewees into a dramatic story. Her storytelling style shone through in both “The Oral History Project for the Romare Bearden Black Odyssey Exhibit“(2015) and “A Place to Become: Montclair Through the Eyes of the Glenridge Avenue YWCA Women“(2013.) Her documentaries were screened at Columbia University, The Montclair Film Festival, The San Diego Film Festival and the DC Independent Film Festival. “A Place to Become“ was selected by the state of New Jersey for its Amistad Commission Curriculum. In addition to scriptwriting she is currently working on an original 1-hour historical fiction teleplay that looks at race and class through the lens of Shady Rest, a black country club in 1930’s New Jersey. Allison received her B.F.A. in Dramatic Writing from New York University’s Tisch School and her M.A. in Oral History from Columbia University.

 

Logline

Nicole moves back to her hometown with her high school son, the top running back in the state of Ohio. She finds out that her arch-enemy from high school, Lisa, is the head football coach and the mother of her son’s new love interest.

 

Synopsis: Miley Lisa comes from a long line of successful high school football coaches. Her grandfather had the most wins in the county. Her father had the second most wins in the county. After working as one of her father’s assistants for four yearsshe has been promoted to head coach,which some people in the community are not happy about.

It is Lisa’s first day. Her husband Ron, a retired football player, assures her that everything will be fine. Her daughter Renee, a freshman at the high school, is too wrapped up in her teenage world.

Everything is fine until…

Nicole, Lisa’s arch-enemy from childhood, moves back home after catching her husband having an affair. She returns with her son Chip, who also happens to be the best high school running back in Ohio. Unfortunately his disregard for Lisa as a female coach overshadowed his talent; and Chip does not make the high school team. Unbeknownst to Lisa, Chip is Nicole’s son and one of the best high school running backs in the country.

Nicole is furious. She storms down to the high school. When she gets there and sees that Lisa is the coach she is shocked and scared. Her son’s college future is in the hands of a woman that she has hated since they were 3 years old.

When Lisa later finds out how good Chip is she realizes that she may have to humbly step away from her decision and her hatred for Chip’s mom. Lisa really needs a running back.

Lisa and Nicole’s life become more entwined as Nicole starts taking classes at the only yoga studio in town, run by Lisa’s husband, and after Chip starts to date Renee.

Ironically Lisa lives next door to her parents, Dwight and Mary and Nicole lives across the streetwith her mother Laverne.Mary and Laverne have been best friends since childhood.
