Synopsis:
Miley Rattigan's
store is financially on its knees. He wants 'out' from the
loan with his ex-wife Rita, while she doesn't understand the
first thing about business. Rita still carries a torch for
Miley but he isn't interested any more. Hugh, one of the
regulars is too wrapped up in his own world to see a way
through, and he doesn't realize another store regular Laura,
a literature student really likes him. Gormless store man
Oscar struggles with the basics of life and working in the
store.
Miley is shocked
and angry. How dare this woman! Yes woman waltz into his
store, fur coat, glamorous with money to burn just turn
around and buy his store, after all the hard graft he put
in, with his dumb dumb ex-wife, and she threatens to take
that all away. Esther knows all about him, how he started
out. Her Daddy was the same, he had a store just like this
in the eighties. Esther had happy memories working there
while she studied business at Harvard. But when she came
back, her Daddy made it big and turned it into a department
store in Copley Plaza. He 'sold out' in Miley's eyes. Esther
taunts Miley about his austere teen-age-hood and he taunts
her back. This turns into the most childish scuffle while
they play at attaching each other with mops, brooms and
toilet seats from the shop.
