Allison Bonner Shillingford
Allison Bonner
Shillingford is a storyteller who pursues the
character-driven story. As a scriptwriter, her main
objective is to have the audience understand and become
connected to the subject; whether an individual, a family,
or a community. Her original sitcom “Mel & Missy” won best
teleplay in the 2013 17th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival,
presented by BET Networks. Her original sitcom “Everything

the 2015 Filmmaker Magazine’s 1st TV Script Writing

As an oral historian/documentarian, Allison weaves the
personal accounts of her interviewees into a dramatic story.
Her storytelling style shone through in both “The Oral
History Project for the Romare Bearden Black Odyssey
Exhibit“(2015) and “A Place to Become: Montclair Through the
Eyes of the Glenridge Avenue YWCA Women“(2013.) Her
documentaries were screened at Columbia University, The
Montclair Film Festival, The San Diego Film Festival and the

teleplay that looks at race and class through the lens of
Shady Rest, a black country club in 1930’s New Jersey.

York University’s Tisch School and her M.A. in Oral History
from Columbia University.
